Blenheim launches interactive course map

Sunday, August 19, 2012 - 19:00

The Fidelity Blenheim Palace International Horse Trials has created an interactive guided cross country course for iPhone and iPad users (in association with CrossCountry App). Riders and spectators at the Blenheim International Horse Trials on 6th-9th September will be able to download the free course with photos, videos and audio commentary. This will enhance spectator appreciation of the exciting challenges for horse and rider set by international Course Designer Eric Winter.

‘This is an app which is increasingly being used by more and more riders’ says Event Director Mandy Hervieu, ‘developed by Jose Diacono it is really useful and interesting for riders and spectators alike. It will enable both to get an insight into the 2012 course which incorporates a modified route and many new and enhanced fences’.

About CrossCountry App

CrossCountry App helps event riders to memorise their courses and ride to time.

Riders create a personal course map or can add to one recorded by the event organiser or another rider. As they walk the course with their iPhone, CrossCountry App creates a course track with jumps overlaid on a Google satellite map, measures the course with GPS tracking and automatically calculates minute markers. Riders add photos, videos, comments and striding then quickly browse the course before they compete to remind themselves how to tackle each jump.

CrossCountry App is used by riders of all levels from Australian Olympic Gold Medalist Stuart Tinney and Silver Medalists Clayton Fredericks and Shane Rose to novice adult riders and pony clubbers.

The app is highly intuitive and easy to use and will work without mobile phone reception or internet.

Blenheim International will extend the use of the app to a new audience of spectators who can download the free Lite version. Having the course conveniently to hand will increase their enjoyment and help them plan which jumps to watch.
